Just-in-Time (JIT) Inventory requires delivery of the right inventory at the right time and in usable condition.
COVID-19 caused disruptions in supply chains and the future of JIT Inventory system has become unclear. Some articles suggest that we need to rethink about JIT.
According to Dr Ranjeeni’s PhD research (Click here), it is important to consider the importance of the ability of top management team (TMT) in the efficient management of JIT inventory. Dr Ranjeeni provides a theoretical framework on how more able TMTs can contribute to efficient JIT inventory management. In doing so, she theoretically links specific traits of more able managers identified by prior literature to the requirements for efficient JIT inventory management.
Dr Ranjeeni’s Hypothesis:
Her hypothesis is that firms with more able managers are associated with more efficient JIT inventory management relative to firms with less able managers.
Dr Ranjeeni’s Findings:
Consistent with her prediction, she finds that the ability of TMT is associated with efficient management of JIT inventory.
According to her PhD research, "findings suggest that managerial ability contributes to efficiency in JIT inventory management with the extent of such efficiency being conditional on the level of discretion granted to managers and the effective monitoring of such discretion", (Ranjeeni, 2019).
Presentation Video
Below is a recording of a virtual presentation she gave on this topic at the Transitional Artificial Intelligence Research Group, UNSW, Australia.
Dr Ranjeeni is currently working on developing research papers from her PhD thesis. Her first working paper is available from SSRN. Please click here.
Through this post, Dr Ranjeeni aims at generating a conversation on the importance of the ability of TMT in efficiently managing JIT inventory system. She would appreciate your kind comments, views and experiences or references to any articles or anecdotal evidence (i.e., real life examples) on this topic.
